Welcome to the Waterhood

Integrated fresh wastewater treatment system cleans gray and black water, produces valuable bi-products, enhances natural ecology and augments landscape irrigation, while creating a unique ecotourism destination.

San Diego-based H2O Futures is a company all about functional, sustainable design. The concept of living life as an environmentalist often drums up images of a stark, pared down existence, devoid of anything that may not be deemed a "necessity". This company feels differently.

Mixing a flair for aesthetically-pleasing landscape architecture with a green sensibility, H2O Futures takes conservation all the way to generation. According to their website, www.h2ofutures.net/, their projects range from natural waste-water treatment plants to sustainable seawater-based communities, which result in:
·         Lush landscaping
·         Ecological enhancement
·         Plant-based systems that “grow clean water” from gray or black water
·         Fresh, brackish and seawater farming
·         Reforestation for carbon sequestration and carbon credits
·         Forestry for eco-tourism and biofuel production

They also point out that, once constructed, many projects also generate income.

Currently, they hope to develop a "Waterhood" in the Point Loma community of San Diego, where water scarcity is rampant, approaching crisis levels. They hope to "grow" clean water in three ways: On-site wastewater treatment and reuse; bioremediating contaminated seawater and sludge; and integrated freshwater/ seawater production system. Not only will these services benefit the community directly, but H2O Futures hopes that the Waterhood will serve as an example for other developers, but a tourist attraction as well.
